A remarkable scrapbook album composed of original photography (40 photos total), event programs, clippings, documents, dozens of ephemeral articles, etc...documenting the early-1940's competitive bicycle racing career of a St. Louis woman named Elsie Stracke (b. about 1922). The contents cover regional Midwestern (chiefly St. Louis and Chicago) and national competition in events sanctioned by organizations including the Century Road Club of America, St. Louis Cycling Club, and Amateur Bicycling League of America.
Throughout contents are generously notated. Highlights include material on the 1941 Elgin to Chicago road race (including an event flyer and letter to Stracke from the race organizer explicitly stating there will be no women's division) ; programs and photographs documenting races held in St. Louis' Forest Park and Walsh Stadium ; a collection of original racing numbers with hand-written notations identifying races, dates, etc... to versos.
